Circular Economy and AI: AIDEAS Competition Seeks Ideas
The competition is seeking ideas and concepts for circular business models involving AI. The focus is on approaches that make material and product flows visible, reduce resource use, extend product lifespans, or create new data-driven services for the circular economy. Please note: Submitters have until October 16 to submit their concepts!
Eligible participants:
• Colleges, universities, and research institutions
• Startups, scale-ups, and grown-ups
• Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
• Large, established companies
• Collaborative projects and consortia
• Individuals
• Groups consisting of several people or organizations
• Civil society initiatives
To participate, you must be based in Germany.
Individuals must reside in Germany, and companies and organizations must have their headquarters in Germany. Individual collaboration partners may also be based abroad. In addition, applicants must ensure that the work on their contribution to AIDEAS is not already being funded by other public grants.
Participants can submit their concepts online via a form on the Circular AI Hub website. An interdisciplinary jury comprising representatives from business, AI development, and politics will select the ten most compelling concepts. In doing so, the jury will assess whether the idea can be developed into a viable and scalable business model: How innovative and creative is the approach? Is it realistically feasible? Does the idea offer economic potential? And does the team have the appropriate experience and necessary expertise?
Support for the Ten Best Ideas
The ten selected teams will each receive 10,000 euros to further develop their concepts. During the implementation phase, the teams will refine their business models using the Innovation Readiness Level (IRL) methodology and ultimately produce an IRL report. All concepts will then be presented at the Circular AI Hub Forum on November 10, 2026.
